Well, the decsion is just about made. L3010, fel, r4's. I'm working with Carver since the local dealer
"doesn't do price competeing". Basically a take it or leave it attitude so I'm leaving it. Problems may arise when I need service, I hope not. Oh well, I've heard good things about Steve Carver from this forum. I'm trying to get in touch with him by phone today, but it's after 5 so I think I'm delayed until Monday. AARRGH! I want a new tractor.

Welcome aboard, Chuck! I bought my L3010 from Carver and found him a pleasure to deal with. The truckers he used in my case was really good about giving me nightly progress reports and revised ETAs while she was on the road.

One thing to consider before placing your order is the cost of doing a package deal. If you want any attachments, work with Steve now while he has the option of rolling the shipping costs into one lump sum. I've bought a few implements since then, and while Carver had great prices the shipping costs pushed him out of the ball park.

Just curious, why did you opt for R4s over the ags? What's your land and intended usage like?

Thanks, Pete. I'm expecting a phone call any minute from Carver. My land is 60 acres, 25 tilled, woods on the balance. The R4's were chosen for durablitiy, I drive over brush alot to gather firewood. It is one of my "questions" for Carver, if heavy duty ag's are available I still might opt for ag's. I'm still slightly nervous about buying something of this magnitude several states away, thanks for your testimony of confidence in Carver.

Chuck, I am sure you will be happy dealing with Steve. I haven’t bought a tractor from him, although I most likely will one of these days. There are people from coast to coast on the forum who have and I have never heard a bad word about their experience. This can be a vocal group at times so I am sure we would have heard./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Not long ago someone was asking about making his own tooth bar for a loader. Steve jumped in and said his shop tried it and it just was to much effort and materials to be worth doing. Then he offered to send a production one for the person to look at, copy and send back if they still wanted to try. Shoot, I’ve been to some dealers that will not send out a salesman if you are sitting on a tractor drooling with a hand full of hundred dollar bills.

I understand why you would be nervous buying out of state. I wouldn’t worry with Carver Equipment.

CHUCK: welcome to the forum. don't think u will be disappointed with carver, never bought a tractor from him, but he seems to have a good rep. here. as for the R4'S I DON'T THINK IT SO MUCH A QUESTION OF DURABILITY AS IT IS TRACTION. don't think one is more durable than the other, i have R4's on my 2400 and love them, but that is my sit. and not urs. i nedded a tire with good traction and a mild footprint, so i chosse r4's. if u are not worried about tearing up the yard u may want to reconsider ags

Steve is big on R4s, but up here only folks with TLBs or nice flat ground use them. I nearly took Steve's advice, but after watching my distant neighbor struggling up a muddy slope with R4s I went with local wisdom.

There are times I wish I had the industrials. The wider, less aggressive footprint would be nice for packing down the road after recrowning it. And the extra plies would be nice when pulling logs over stubble. But in our legendary mud season those aggies never lose their grip, and with all the logs I've pulled out of the forest (I heat two homes with wood) the only flat I've had was when I ran over my peavey and that sharp metal tip poked a hole in the rubber...it probably would have holed an R4 also.

What do the locals say where you live?

Pete
