Alternative to the grease tube.

I'll be darned if I can get the bulk dispenser to work. What I do is pull the spring loaded lever alll the way back. Pump the grease lever to fill the tube and bang it on a hard surface to settle the grease. Pump a bit more and repeat. It's not a messy operation, but whatever the trick is to loading the guns with the pump, I haven't figured it out.

Sounds like you're making it complicated, I assume the spring loaded lever is the T handle that pulls the plunger in the gun back, and I don't know what you bang on to settle the grease, here's how I do it and it works for me. When the grease gun gets empty, I take it to the bulk filler that is on a 5 gal bucket of grease, I plug the nipple adapter on the grease gun into the receptacle on the bulk filler and hold the two fittings together with some pressure and pump the handle on the bulk filler about 8 to 10 pumps and watch the T handle on the end of the grease gun, when the T handle gets all the way out, I know the grease gun is full of grease. Since I don't pull the T handle before I fill the gun there's no air in the gun. The last grease gun that I bought was for bulk grease or grease cartriges, the instructions with the new gun said to remove the end of the gun and remove the cotter pin and turn the plunger over and reinstall if the gun was to be used with bulk grease, after I opened the grease gun, I could see why, the wiping edge of the plunger was facing away from the grease. Good luck, hope this works for you too.

I have the bulk adapter on top of the 5 gallon pail of grease. There is a big lever you push to (supposedly) load the gun thru the special adapter. In theory you push the gun on the adapter, pump the handle and it loads the gun. In my experience with 2 different guns, it either pushes the gun off the adapter or a tiny bit of grease gets in and a bunch squirts out between the adapter and the pump.

What I've been doing is pull the head off the gun, pull the long lever all they way back and just use the bulk pump to fill up the tube. I wack it to settle the grease down in the bottom and repeat a couple times til it's full. Replace the cap and press on.

Next time I empty my gun I'll look at the wiper and see if it's reversable. My instructions where translated from chinese to french to english so I might have missed something. :)

That clears it up a lot, the new gun I got had the wrong nipple size in it, too small, so I went to NAPA and they ordered one that fit my bulk filler. The nipple that was in my grease gun was 12mm and when I tried to fill it grease came out around it no matter how much pressure I held on it, I took the nipple out of the grease gun to NAPA and told them I wanted one to fit the Lincoln bulk filler, he ordered it and it was less than $3.00 and it is ~15mm, still have to hold pressure on it, but it doesn't spew grease out. Maybe your nipple is too small.

Just finished greasing the hay mower: Finest red grease. Then sat back for a jelly donut & coffee. Noticed red blob on front of shirt, presumed it was Dunkin's finest. Nope. Tastes horrible. Good thing only two people saw it.

Alright, someone help me out here. I bought the pump, bought a 35lb bucket of grease, tried to make the two talk nicely to each other. The tube is nowhere near long enough to reach the bottom of the bucket; the follower plate fits in the bucket at the top of the grease, but since the bucket is tapered (regular 5-gallon bucket) it will only be able to go so far down; there seems to be no actual pump mechanism. The pump seems to be a tube with a metal rod inside that goes up and down. No piston, no seals, no valves, just a tube with a metal rod. Am I just feeble from too much television, or is there something I'm missing?
