for a basketball court, all you need is a rototiller (buy/rent/pay someone) and a heavy lawn/garden roller (hand tamper for edges) and Polypavement.
it's a soil solidifier which creates a hardened "rigid" surface 3-5xs strength of asphalt but not quite that of concrete
here's a link for info. PolyPavement: Natural Soil Pavement - Liquid Soil Solidifier
and they sell in 5gal trial size buckets that would be more than enough for your basketball area.. well depending on how you apply it.
best part, is you can do it all at your own pace, and labor, so it's quite economical.
and might be a reason to buy that tractor tiller or roller you may have been wanting anyways.
I have plans to use this for the floor of my tractor shed, and outside additional parking. as well as under where the firewood is dumped/seasoned so there's no more mud sunk firewood.
