Hey fellas,

My ALT is way overcharging the battery at nearly 15vdc! That explains the copious amount of corrosion on the terminals and on the hold down bar. In any case, I can easily rebuild it myself and need to buy a rebuild kit. Well wait a min, is it still under the 5 year warranty? Doesn't really matter a whole bunch but that thought just popped into my head.

Has anyone suggest a vendor for purchasing a rebuild kit? My tractor has 85 hours on it so it's still a young buck :D I suppose I can't just leave well enough alone and may even go for a higher output unit as there seems to be plenty of room in there. It's a 50 amp unit and I prefer to upsize the case for more output vs simply modifying the existing case for more output. Keeping these things cool is very important as you know. Anyone done this to these alternators? I'd imagine we all have similar size engines so the available space should be similar as well.

Thank you.

Maybe it it just the voltage regulator. Isn't that a part replacement on an alternator?

What is the actual voltage. You say nearly 15v, so to me, that means 14.6-14.8v.

Is that idle or reved up?

Sounds normal to me. What voltage you looking for?

It sounds normal to me. I haven't ever checked my tractor alternator, but my truck produces about 14.5 volts idling.

14.9 volts at idle and 1500.

Yep output voltage is a function of the regulator not the rest of the alternator. If it was 14 something at RPM, that's normal and it's supposed to be that way. How accurate is your meter and are the batteries in it good? Some meters are so far out of calibration it's pitiful and some aren't worth a hoot right out of the box.

Normal.

Also note that a bad battery can cause the charging voltage to be elevated.

My truck charging voltage is about 15 volts. Both on the truck's voltmeter and on my nice quality digital volt meter. It has read that for 5 years. Batteries seem to doing just fine,.

Didn't you believe those who posted in the earlier thread you made?
