Alternator

/ Alternator #11
I bought the 30w halogen back up bulbs and they work great. Heat doesn't seem to be a problem as they have been installed for over 4yrs now. Give a lot of light.
You can get these at any auto supply. I spent about $25 CDN

An easy way to check if your alternator is covering the load is to simply check your battery voltage with the tractor running and all the lights on. If the voltage is over 13 volts, the alternator is supplying the full load without draining the battery. If it is much below 13 volts, then your battery is supplying some of the current, and it will eventually drain. It would probably be best to do this after it has run for 5 to 10 minutes to give the alternator a chance to recharge the battery some after the drain of starting the engine.

Do you need to run both headlights all the time? Could you put a switch on one so that it could be turned off. You could also put an LED light in the one that you keep on most.

Put a charger on the battery when not in use. This way the battery life will not be impacted as much, if at all. Lead acid batteries last longer if you keep them fully charged. If the alternator cannot keep up, then the battery will be partially discharged when you stop work.

Alternator ratings is at some high RPM. At idle you will not have nearly the amperage. Keep your rev's up when the lights are on.
