I don't know if you watch "Mith-Busters" on the Discovery Channel, but I think this might be a good one for them.

Somewhere I heard a mith that drinking your favorite beverage (beer) from an aluminum can causes cancer vs. drinking from glass bottles. Obviously long-term drinking causes problems, however is there a science to this? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Beer just don't taste the same from an Alu can. Give me mine in glass.

Beer in aluminum causes people to make up things to worry about.

Now, cooking in an aluminum pot, everyone knows that causes Alzheimer's.

Did you say something about beer?

I just saw Iron City beer from Pittsburgh PA in a bottle shaped out of aluminum. Now the real question is this a bottle or a can????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think the aluminum can will have an interior coating.

I do not know if the aluminum kegs that draught, draft or pump beer come in are coated.

Only sensible way to drink beer is out of a big glass. Saves on refilling trips.

No way. It just identifies which class of redneck you belong in. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Classy rednecks use glass drinking vessels AND trash cans for the empties. Environmentally conscious rednecks use only cans, triple rinse and bagged for recycling. Real rednecks use aluminum cans only because they are easier to smash on their foreheads which, as you all know, really impresses the girls!

Hadn't heard that one before.
I too believe all alum beer/beverage cans are lined ... maybe it's the lining that's bad for you /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'm comfortable cooking anything but tomato products in alum cookware and I believe there are volumes of info available on that subject.
I happen to have a stainless kettle for brewing beer but my neighbor has alum ... no diff in flavor, etc.
I haven't heard of an alum beer keg ... I believe they're all SS.
I'm a fan of PET bottles for all beverages mostly because I'm a clutz. I believe Miller pioneered them for beer in the US market.
My personal all around fav container is a SS commuter mug ... everybody thinks you're drinking coffee /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

MT Dew is better in the can.
Pepsi is better in glass, but they do not sell it that way any more.

what about plastic containers ?

I concur homebrew. The breweries up here in Seattle were having trouble when the meth heads were stealing the kegs stored outside to be sold as scrap stainless steel.

I use aluminum containers when working outside and glass when at home. Broken glass in the woods is no good.
