Greetings from upstate SC--I did not know this forum existed untill I was searching for a fix for my DR Mower's starter. I've been throwing money at it but it doesn't seem to be working! New starter and solenoid, New Battery, Tried to convert it to a recoil start and the one I bought lost the Pawls the first time I used it! At least I have lots to talk about! Thanks for letting me join! I have much research to do!

Humm. sounds like a problem I had with a Murray mower with a Briggs overhead cam engine. The problem was with the valve clearance believe it or not.. seems to be a common problem with them.. symptoms are wont crank fully over. seems like a weak battery, or draggy starter, but neither fix it. battery and starter always test good. New battery might start it for a couple of starts but always wont start soon after. If this is your problem, then set the valve clearance.

There are a million things on the web about this,.. Oh and if you need a brand new starter I have one..:laughing::laughing:

You are the opposite of me. I have been trying to convert my 12.5 Briggs pull behind to an electric strat with limited success. The recoil start just continues to throw pawls. It is frustrating.
