I've seen pictures here with the dipstick laid on one of those blue paper windshield cleaning towels found at the gas station-looked like an OK idea.

I just lay it against my index finger and see where the wet mark is. I like the blue towel idea too.

I try to read dip sticks cold because that seems to help. If I need to read one hot I like the blue paper shop towels.

The older I get I can't hardly read any dipsticks of any color unless it's engine oil that needs changing.

One idea I got last year from this forum (didn't see it in that thread), is to mark the whole dipstick with black magic marker. Very simple and it helps quite a bit.

No, it's been over a year and it's as good as the day I painted it.

As I remember the plastic has a sort of rough finish, so the black magic marker color seemed to go right into the material, not just coat the outside. I used one of those wide tipped markers.

Good deal, that thought went through my mind yesterday but I did'nt want to do it and then have to buy a new dipstick if it did'nt work. I will give it a shot today. Thanks, Bret:thumbsup:

Magic marker sounds good. If you don't like it laquer thinner will take it off. No need to get a new stick.

I hold the stick horizontal and shine a flashlight on it. At the right angle it is visible. I think I'll try the marker though.

My bx2200 had the metal looking dipstick, and I use a blue paper towel too. It works for me.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to use the marker on only one side in case the fluid color changes, or a different color fluid is chosen in the future.
On a metal stick like mine, I suspect I would need to clean it with acetone to have a chance of having it stick well.

On our BX2660 (yellow plastic dipstick) I drilled 2 1/8" holes, one just below the low mark and one just above the full mark, I pull the stick, blow the holes out, wipe it off, reinsert it, remove it and see if both holes have oil in them.

Took a lighter to mine and lightly burned the end. It discolored enough to read the fluid level. You do wonder what someone was thinking when they chose the yellow color for clear fluids.:confused2:
