To just smooth;I lower the box blade so only the back blade is touching and go forward only.

Do you have draft control on your tractor? This keeps you he box somewhat level while tractor moves across unlevel ground, works great.

Someone has probably mentioned this, but for your final passes, tilt the box blade back, so that the rear blade is on the ground and the front blade clear of the ground, and let it float. This will chop off only the highest spots, and it will flatten everything out nicely. Sort of like back blading, but easier.
