Like I said Mike, sorry if it all came across wrong and nothing personal, you all are busy. But I feel this poster should have been able to mention the dealer.

Excellent point. This forum belongs to US. and it is up to us as a group to help maintain the standard that we desire and expect from this forum. anything that a member deems offensive or out of line should be brought to the attention of the moderators, and they will make the decesion. THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT!

All I was saying is Junkman is correct in what he says .If you could not mention a dealer by name you could make it pretty plain who or where without mentioning any names and still get your point across.

Compare the names of the 9 moderators in that forum, whichever forum it was, with the names of the moderators in any other forum. Contrary to popular belief, we do not read every message on every forum. Even if there were 17 moderators, we couldn't read every message in every forum. We are a community, where everyone knows the rules. If someone sees one of them has been violated, then, as a member of that community they should notify a moderator. )</font>

I read just about every post in most forums. The problem is that you moderators have never broken down the forums as to which ones you each watch. I have to believe that some posts are read by more than one moderator, and some posts are never read by any moderators. Possibly you folks need to eliminate the moderators that don't participate and appoint new moderators to take up the slack. Certainly there are a lot of qualified people that would be willing to take on the task, even if it is only for one color of tractor. If a particular moderator is interested in JD, then have him be the primary moderator of the JD forum. If Kubota, then do the same. No need to have one person trying to police the whole site. One of the other problems is that there is no consistency of enforcement by the moderators. What one moderator sees no problem with, another finds offensive and deletes the post. I see way too much personal bias of some moderators in the way that they perform their tasks. I realize that this is a volunteer group, but even volunteers need to be regulated and directed. It is my impression that the management doesn't over ride a bad decision by a moderator for fear that the moderator might quit. I have seen many things in the past that should be addressed, but the poster is part of the "good ole boy" network and is given more slack than some others. This is not an attack on any one moderator, but a honest evaluation and observation by a member of the forums. You might just call this "constructive criticism". If any moderator finds this offensive, please let me know and then delete it.... da junkster..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have to agree Junkman. I had a post deleted where I criticized the posting of misinformation by a certain memeber.Days later I was reading a thread where two guys were really at each other, and this same moderator was even a poster, but he didn't delete their much worse behavior. Go figure. John

One of the moderators has experience on another discussion group with forum specific moderators. It results in entirely different communities across the different forums.

This is simply the result of the enforcement of subjective rules and each moderator has their own set of internal filters when it comes to evaluating a post. Calling it 'bias' is somewhat pejorative and not the noun I'd use, but to each his own. If TBNers would read, and follow, the Terms of Service and the forum posting rules, there'd be no need for Moderators to intervene, save the occasional post relocation. No jokes lists, no politics, no profanity and no religion posts. If someone has to ask themselves, "I wonder if this post/reply/word is appropriate?" it probably is not.

The vast, vast majority of active TBN members have never had a post moderated. The posts that need moderated typically are generated from a small number (less than 10) of people.

They are. However, since this occurs outside the public forums it's understandable you'd assume it's not being done.

Not knowing the specific incident, I can only comment generally.

(1) Sometimes it's not what was said but how it was said.
(2) When deleting a post, any replies to that post are deleted as well (database design) and could be innocent victims.

I moderate one Forum group that is similar to TBN and a few Yahoo groups. I know what problems you are up against, and I also know how different moderators see things differently. Just as moderators see things differently, so do members as far as the "terms of service". When one member sees how another veteran or seasoned member answers posts, they follow suit with their own form of posting. This is where the deviation of the conditions of "terms of service" vary. I have seen where a seasoned member will use "@#$^&^*" intermixed with letters, so there is no question as to what the swear word that they are using be ignored, and the same being done by a "newbie" and the post is deleted. This is one of the discrimination examples that I speak of. I have seen you post to threads where some of the posts should have been shut down, but ignored. There are times that we all are too close to the trees to see the forest. Depending on ones particual social/moral/religious belief, is how certain things are seen. What one person sees, might not be what another sees. As the famous Supreme Court Justice Potter Stuart, in 1964 said ...."I can't define pornography, but I know it when I see it." This begs the question, "when is nudity, pornography and when is it art?"
Everyone of us will have a differant answer depending on our personal viewpoint on the subject. To some, a beautiful body might be art and a obese person, pornography. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Moderating is a thankless job, but it has to be done by someone.
