My wife has a set of the Bose headphones. She got them to block out the jet engine noise while flying and trying to listen to music / watch a movie. She loves them. As was mentioned, they are only headphones - you still have to provide a source for the music.
I've tried to listen to AM radio while mowing the yard. My understanding is that there is something with the mower that causes interference with AM reception. My experience was horrible with AM.
