AM radio reception

Robert,
Yea, we've seen some issues with that... The 5.0L(302) in the F-150 arround '90 was pretty fussy about that. The firing order on it didnt like to have 7 & 8 next to each other. This was a phantom missfire that would come and go intermitently. Almost felt like a torque converter shudder, seen several guys get frustrated with that one, including myself. And this was even with factory wires.. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I guess I havent looked at the talk stations recently. Last I checked Fox was there. That last move ticked me off too... My unit failed and I was without it for a couple of weeks while they repaired it and I about went crazy, having to listen to the Clear Channel monopoly.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif... Then of course, the channels had changed and I was lost...I would immagine they bring them back, I'm sure there have been allot of complaints. I just dont like the XM line-up, so I'll live with it either way I guess...

okay...about the satellite radio you have to have an FM radio. This is because the satellite radio receives a signal from the satellite and then retransmits it on it's own low power FM transmitter that you then receive on your FM radio. SO, with this in mind I don't think this would solve the AM radio problem.

I am sorry to have mentioned this- I thought it would fix the prob. but my husband just read this and explained to me it is more involved. Sorry. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the replies.

Those ferrite beads won't work for me since my alternator wire is 2 awg and my the feeds for my stereo and amps are two 8 awg wires. Hard to wrap those wires around anything.

I got the noise filter (get them at cost through work) and installed it tonight and boy does it work! No difference now in quality with engine on or off. Much better reception, no alternator whine and no static from the vehicle.

I think I'll still get one of those antennas from C.Crane since I live about 60-80 miles from most of the transmitters around here. I'll see if that will improve reception even more.

Thanks again.
