Amazing The Things You See When You Look!

<font color="blue"> and lo and behold there are about 40 - 50 antique tractors sitting around...Well, I need to stop in and get some pics for my buddies at TBN. Maybe I could find some of those old style seats Rancar collects! </font>

Thank you, sir, for thinking of me. These old tractor shows are very interesting. They had one up in Vermont just this past weekend. Couldn't go due to other family commitments. But, if anyone has a real interest in these old tractors it is likely worth the $10 admission fee they were asking.....not much more than a movie ticket and you'll likely spend a bit more time there inspecting and snapping photos of these fine, old machines.

We'll, Garry, it sounds like you're honing in on an AGCO, but still considering JD and NH. I think you're the only one I know here at TBN who has had such an open mind about different makes and models for the longest period of time. Can you give your TBN buddies a 'clue' as to where you are leaning so we can all help you out in your decision making? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, how are you coming along with that property purchase decision you are considering?

A clue?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

How can I give you guys a clue......I'm clueless myself! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As I've mentioned many times before, in all likelihood, I won't be buying until sometime in 2005 (retirement date) unless something really radical happens. So I'm using all this time to learn as much as I possibly can about tractors and what will suit me best. I also have to consider the fact that by the time I'm ready to buy, the "economy" will probably have changed a bit, so what I find now for prices, interest rates, etc. will not be very reflective of what I'll be dealing with then.

Having said all of that, I will say that IF I had to make a decision today on a base unit, it would be pretty much based on a 40hp, shuttle shift transmission, with a mid pto. The best price I've found within my shopping area would be the AGCO ST40 at $13,300. The next best is the Kioti DK40 at about $14,200. Then it would be tie between JD 4310 and NH TC40 at around $15,500. These last 2 figures were obtained a few months ago, so they may be a little low.

To be honest, though, I haven't been able to get to some of the other dealers (JD, NH, Kubota, Century, etc.) in the area when they're open. For example, I think I could get a better quote from both JD and NH when I can talk to a couple of other dealers (which there are in my area).

So, until I reach the point when I know I'll be buying, I'm going to continue to be "color blind". Once I reach that point, then I'll have to make a decision once and for all. And you guys will be the first to know! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Well, except for the CFO of course!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Funny you should ask, Bob. We just got a call from our realtor over the weekend that the sellers are taking the property off of the market for at least 2 - 3 months. Seems that they have a lot of family activities that they need to do on the farm, and they don't want to get in the middle of the mess of selling/moving, etc. if the deal went through. they did tell us that since we had already come out and looked the place over, they would be willing to entertain any offer we made, but they would not accept any offers from anyone else.

So it gives us a little breathing room. I'm STILL waiting to connect with the township supervisor. Seems I caught him when he was on vacation. I should be talking with him this week. And now that the sellers are putting everything on hold for a couple of months, we don't have to worry about any deals messing up our vacation in October!

We have been in touch with our bank, and they have tentatively approved the purchase as we've described it, subject, of course, to all other conditions being met.

If it all comes together, I would consider it as something really radical happening! If you know what I mean! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for asking. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

<font color="blue">"...the "economy" will probably have changed a bit..."</font>

I wonder though in which direction. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gifEconomists said two years ago we would be recovering by now. All I see at this point is the economy muddling along. Hope you're right and the economy kicks into high gear by 2005.

<font color="blue">"...the sellers are taking the property off of the market for at least 2 - 3 months..."</font>

I wonder if the real reason is they are thinking of doing the same thing you were thinking of doing by parceling up the property and they just wanted extra breathing time to examine all the factors and contingencies. It's good for you though in that you have extra time to work all this through and you won't have any other potential buyers competing with you for the property.

I suppose that's a possibility. But since they had done that before with the "back 40", I don't think it's the case because since they had done it before, they should know the basic process, factors and contingencies from the first time they sold off parcels.

No, I think they're just not in any particular hurry to sell, and they decided to make it a little easier on themselves during this time of family activity.

Regardless of their reason, I'm pleased for the extra time. We have some pretty busy family time ourselves right now with my son getting married in our backyard on the 24th. Plus, I'm right in the middle of hiring an interim pastor for our church while we search for a permanent pastor. And then throw in that these last weeks before Labor Day, the wife and I (she more than I) are tied up with preparing a home for the Parade of Homes. She's gone every day until into the evening, so I'm trying to pick up the slack so we can just keep things going. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

So, yes, I'm very glad they decided to pull it from the market for a few months! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
