Amazon delivery problems using USPS

Never had UPS or Fedex hand it off. Is this common in certain locales?

as other posters said.. it's nationwide...

I think of it like this.

combining the services of the USPS and a common carrier, you probably see the following:

cheapest cost of either.

time for delivery is addative... IE, if it takes ups 3-4 days to get it to you and usps 2-3 days to get it to you individually, then expect it to take about 5-7 days to get it when there is a hand off.

any bonus of the ups or fed ex tracking system is negated as soon as it hits the USPS 'can't track it even if it's right in front of them' system.

Any negatives of both services are added together.

so really.. you gat non of the plusses, and all of the negatives, transit time goes up, handling goes up. we all know that you multiply handling times transit times to find the damage or loss coeficient.

only one who gets a good deal is the sender $$

For a while they were using Fedex smartpost in this location, a lot. It was just awful. I complained repeatedly and I am sure many others did too. After a couple months it went away apparently forever.

+1 on SmartPost problems. FedEx/UPS tracking shows it delivered, but that's to the USPS for the hand off. The parcel disappears into no man's land until it shows up, usually two or three days later. I can see the reasoning behind it: The USPS is coming to the local address almost every day, so why not use that existing trip to deliver the FedEx/UPS parcel, too? Free shipping isn't something I use when I'm in a hurry, and an extra day or two is no big deal. But when the package just disappears from the tracking system, that's a problem.

Agreed, I'm in florida ( 2.5 hours from the fl/g border ) and back in febuary I mailed a letter to georgia priority. It went to jacksonville like normal, and should have then gone to atlanta, and then from atlanta to destination post office.

nope, for the next 12 days, it was lost somewhere .. it scanned in, in jax, but never out.. ( no out scanns ) but jax said it went to atlanta.

total ordeal from me handing it over and paying till the end user got it was 16 days.

it never did show the ANY scans in atlanta.... just randomly showed up as a scan in at the destination post office.

just pathetic...

with no 'out' scans', you never know if it left some place... with only 'in' scans, and sending between intermediate stations is that 2 locations get to fight over who lost it... jax said it sent.. atlanta said it never rcvd...
