Never had UPS or Fedex hand it off. Is this common in certain locales?
as other posters said.. it's nationwide...
I think of it like this.
combining the services of the USPS and a common carrier, you probably see the following:
cheapest cost of either.
time for delivery is addative... IE, if it takes ups 3-4 days to get it to you and usps 2-3 days to get it to you individually, then expect it to take about 5-7 days to get it when there is a hand off.
any bonus of the ups or fed ex tracking system is negated as soon as it hits the USPS 'can't track it even if it's right in front of them' system.
Any negatives of both services are added together.
so really.. you gat non of the plusses, and all of the negatives, transit time goes up, handling goes up. we all know that you multiply handling times transit times to find the damage or loss coeficient.
only one who gets a good deal is the sender $$
