American made tractors?

^ VERY old thread......but I was just thinking. What if a company like Harley Davidson were to build a tractor and develop a cult following like they did on motorcycles? What say you.....could they do it?

There's precedent for going the other way, sort of - start building tractors and end up being known for the sports cars (Lamborghini).

Good case in point.

Back to tractors Ford started getting all engines as far as I know as of 1965 from the UK region. Sadly Harley will be leave the scene without getting into the tractor business I expect.

I would say in the US that the HD of tractors is John Deere. They do have a cult following, they sell apparel, and there is a store in most towns. For the record I own orange not green. With exception on the compact market, most will look at JD as the gold standard whether they really want to admit it or not. Biggest argument I hear against them is price. So in the farm world you I think you have your answer. Say HD was to suddenly sell tractors, I would say most would see it as a gemic and stick to proven brands.

In the past, even Harley "imported" some of their motorcycles, re-badgeing them with their name on them...

Nothing on those were made in the US.
