Yes, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Our buggy-driving friends and neighbors are catching up with the times, in their own way, of course.

I think this was meant as a joke, but don't see why it wouldn't work, just the same.

It would work much better with 2 wheels in the rear. Leaning through the turns will produce an uneven cut. Go back and stick a note on it! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm sure I've seen the same picture posted other places.

That certainly does not look like Amish country to me. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have to agree with Dave, there are no curtains hanging to one side in the windows. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

With the price of fuel... that doesn't seem like too bad an idea!

I remember pushing that kind of lawn mower all too well. IMO, (I think it is just a joke too /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ), it couldn't work with the pushing point that high and the traction of the rear tire way too low.
Its a good story anyway.

I actually saw a real Amish riding mower the other day with the 'operator seat' behind the two horse team and the mower behind that. It appeared to be a reel type mower rather than rotary.

I saw one of the OLD powered reel mowers go at auction this weekend for 10 bucks. looked like it could still be serviceable! probalby a 20s modle..

Yes the old horse drawn sickle mowers are still around. I operated one many years ago, pulled behind a tractor because we could not afford a sickle mower attachment for it. Worked fine behind the tractor, just like all other sickle mowers how well it works is directly related to how well you maintain it.
Thought about pulling it with my little Subaru the other day, then thought better of it when I realized my wife (subaru driver) did not know gee and haw, and no woman knows woa /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
