Any theories about why. 22lr is in such high demand? .380 was tough too for a while, but 22 seems to persist in scarcity.

Anything I say here will just be an opinion. and worth what you paid for it.
The current thinking is that .22LR is like THE best caliber for the Prepper, survivalist, prepared person, whatever you want to call it group or groups.. After all what caliber is the most used by all people with ANY firearms at all.. it is the lowly .22 Everyone has a .22.. It is good for killing small game, it can feed you in an emergency.. ( it can also kill not so small game if you have to)it is as good as currency for trading with others. It can be used in a defensive scenario. May not be the best, but it is way better than the proverbial sharp stick.. Every You-Tube commando has recommended getting .22 firearms and .22 ammunition to go with them as "must haves". And if the fertilizer does not ever hit the ventilator, you can just shoot it up taking your kid and a trash bag of tin cans out and have a heck of a fun afternoon with it. And last but not least, it USED to be cheap. Like really cheap. Uh. not so much any more. Those are my thoughts.

Thanks, James. I think that makes great sense. I have a good supply of. 22 for some of the reasons you mention.

I saw a program the other night called "The Prophets of Doom" where they outlined multiple ways we can crash, and they all seem nearly unavoidable.

A few years back, my stock screens had me buying oil and water stocks. Oil I understood. Water? Now I understand water too.

I got 1k runds from laxammo online on sale last week (for the record they did not ship to me in MA). I used one of those gun listing sites that crawls the sites and tells you who has what. They were sold out in a matter of minutes. You just have to keep checking back regularly. the local stores said the only way I'd get them was to show up early the day the truck arrives.

I was recently told by an employee where I buy my ammo that he read that the government is paying manufacturers not to keep up with demand, kind of like we hear about farmers being payed to let fields go fallow to keep wheat prices up. Not sure of its true but kind of scary if it is!

They have been taking bids as always. Not bought any more ammo than normal. The bids are for option to buy in the future and not immediate purchase.
The Government Accounting Office has been directed by Congress to find out why and if the Bids requested are any different than past options.

If you go to any of the ammo manufacturers .com sites most will answer your questions about why ammo is in short supply. It "AIN'T the "Guvment".
It's the puchasers of 70,000,000 new weapons in the past few years.

So now the Manufacturers are in the Governments pocket. I guess we got all the bases covered.

Virtually all the manufacturers are running extra shifts to keep up production. I don't believe stockholders would allow a slowdown of profits.

Go to the .com sites of the companies in question.
