Ammunition

Moss. Used to work with a guy that lived in Indiana. He deer hunted a lot with a bow and when he did use a gun. It was a 30-30 single shot pistol. Had a scope and rubber grips. Fired off the shelf ammo in it. He was happy when they legalized the "cowboy caliber rifles".

A lot of southern Indiana has the grid style roads. Once you learn the system they are the easiest to navigate.

What I like about our county is all the east-west roads are names in alphabetical order from north to south. The first east-west road is 1 mile south of the state line:
Adams, Brick, Cleveland, Douglas, etc....
All the north-south roads are trees in alphabetical order from east to west, but the first north south road is ON the county line:
Ash, Beech, Cedar, Dogwood, etc...

North south addresses start with 50000, so if someone's address is 56220 Dogwood Road, you know they are 6.220 miles south from the northern county border (which happens to be the Indiana/Michigan state line). They are between the F road (Filmore) and the G road (Grant), at 2.2/10ths south of Filmore. And they are three miles west of the county line, which is Ash Rd.

East west addresses start with 10000 from east to west. The county is only about 26 miles wide, so you can't get over 36000 east west address. So, any address under 50000 is on an east west road and any address over 50000 is on a north south road.

Most people that live here have no idea that's how it works!

I just have a ?ethical worry? With hunting mid+ sized game with pistol calibers. I'd be one of the shotgunners I guess. I'd rather miss a meal than wound an animal. In that respect I'm a fan of overkill (within reason ).

I guess being smaller, having more deer and maybee more hunters puts people closer.

Yall have wild hogs/ hog problems there?

Florida does.

I LIKE that!

Around here are some weird circle loops and you can run some odd combination of street, road, avenues that normally shouldn't exist, but do, due to curved lines, and creative private subdivision roads from long ago that got annexed as public roads. :)

Here, if a road is straight E-W or N-S, it is a numbered street or avenue. When one curves around a hill or ravine, that curved section has a name instead of a number.

For example, 53rd St becomes Bradford Road where it curves around a hillside. When it straightens out again, it is 53rd St again.

Haven't heard of any wild hog problems in the northern part of the state ever. I have heard there are some in the southern half. I think there's a hog season, as there's hog hunting regs in the book.

Hogs are nuisance animals here, hunt all year on private land, no permit needed

Yeah its pretty convenient. So we got about 24 north south roads and 24 east west roads. Anything with a 5 digit address is in the county. Anything with 4 digit address is in one of the cities or towns. There are very few ROADS in the cities and towns. Only streets, avenues, blvds, etc... The city is easy to figure, too as east-west is divided by main street in both towns and north south is one of the main streets. So, in South Bend, for example, an address of 2410 Tractor St, is 24 blocks from the center of town. Which way? I don't know! It could be east or west or north or south!

Anyhow, in the county, the address system works great on all the little subdivisions and bazillion side streets, too. You can narrow down an address to a square mile pretty much instantly, then go drive around in the subdivision for an hour on each cul de sac until you find it! :confused3:

As a former Boy Scout, I used to think GPS units were for stupid people. You should use a map!!! Then I realized a GPS unit is just a really good map in a box.

Yeah, I've seen some horror stories about crop destruction and wild hogs. Got nothing like that here. Yet. I guess they say its just a matter of time.

That's pretty confusing.
