Amsoil Spy Grease

I would like to add some NLGI 00 grease to my Rhino cutter gearbox due to the fact that the front seal now leaks after I got a willow limb wrapped up in the yoke.

Unfortunately it appears that I would have to buy a 5-gallon bucket of the Amsoil Spy Grease, which would be about a 100 year supply.

Any idea where I can get similar grease like this retail, and how to you get it in the gearbox? I have a grease gun with a nipple - can you get it in a regular grease tube, or is it too fluid for that?

Why not just replace the seal?, and then run the gear lube recomended. Remember, the oil in there is as much for lubrication as it is for heat sink / cooling properties... that is why most final drives run in oil not grease.. and why steering boxes -can- run in grease..less heat due to less movement.

nope i've tried 5gal. seems to be the norm. check caterpillar and jd for smaller sizes not looked yet.

Actualy many suppliers use 00 grease it's becoming more of a std. practice to keep from repeated seal replacement.

If you can find it it works good. many people i've heard of putting a grease fitting on the oil fill vent and filling it full of std grease..

Soundguy, I talked to a Rhino service rep and he stated that my gearbox was shipped with 00 in it. I guess it can't go anywhere, but I added some 80-90 to it a while back and now the seal leaks a little. He said its OK to mix, but I wonder if my addition of lighter oil has made the 00 that was in there a lot thinner.

I'm sure the average viscosity of the oil/grease mixture is somewhere between the original values of the oil, and the grease... so yes.. plainly.
