Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to take the "wait and see approach" at this time.

The tank was slightly less than a quarter full when the nozzle fell in, and I couldn't see it with a flashlight at that point. It seems that the tank has a shelf, for lack of a better term, about 4 inches down from the opening that inhibits you from fully seeing the rest of the tank.

You'll never have a problem with clogging from this spout, but you might have interference with the fuel gage float. Even then, the chance of it getting stuck on the float with fuel sloshing around is minimum in my opinion.

What some folks may not realize is that the 2420 has a fuel tank with the cap on the far left side in an extension of the tank (see attachment). Even with the tank almost empty, therre is very little chance of seeing the spout. However, if you remove the fuel gage float on the right side of the tank, you might be able to see it. I think I'd ignore it until it becomes a problem. At most, it might interfere with the float, but that would occur only if the spout floats and only until fuel sloshed and moved it away from the float.

*I bought a funnel and just take the 'enviro' spout off completely and pour the diesel into a funnel straight from the plastic 'can'.
Got tired of fighting with that thing.
*So what's the purpose in a can that can be defeated so easy?:confused2: :(

I totally understand. I gave up on my 5 gal can last time and just removed the entire spout and poured from the big hole in the can. Kinda messy but quick.

I take the spout off too. A good el-cheapo method would be to build a stand taller than your fuel cap, set the 5 gal. can on that, use a siphon tube to transfer from can to tractor using a wide funnel with a filter screen.

I've found pouring from the can with the spout off is too fast for the fine screen in the funnel to keep up with, and I can only hold the can steady above my chin for so long. :D Plus, I usually end up with a diesel dribble down my arm.

I would forget about the spout unless it causes a problem. Put it on your list of things to do when nothing else sounds entertaining.
Dave.

Take the can back and tell them you need to fill out a warranty claim, to have the tank removed. Just kidding in away. The new gas cans are junk, junk, junk.

I like the better spouts.. but I don't like the baffles...

Will this cause problems, or is the likelihood that it causes flow problems unlikely because of it's shape/weight combined with the tank design?

Believe me, I feel stupid this happened and that I am posting this.

I did the same thing with my brand new '06 TC45A on the very first fill up. Mine was slightly different from yours -it was the hard plastic air bleed nozzle tube they put in 5 gallon diesel cans.

It has never caused me any problems since 2007 and the tractor has experienced various steep grades, speeds, low fuel levels, rough bouncey terrain etc.
