Men CAN get something similar to a yeast infection.

I have had a series of ear and sinus infections for the past two years. The "cure" for this seems to be a steroid shot and some strong antibiotics.

There are side effects!! And it is painful!!! The worst this year was six long sores looking like somebody had taken a box cutter to a part of the male anatomy. Did I mention that it was painful?

And it happens when you take a strong antibiotic. I had some cream to put on it that a doctor gave me nearly twenty years ago. This year it seemed to stop working and I had to suffer badly while on the antibiotics for the ear infections. So we were scheduled to go to a dermatologist checkup. Only problem is that the clinic is entirely female. And I was not about to discuss this problem with them. So I took a picture of the container the cream was in and when the checkup was ending I asked the Nurse Practitioner to write a prescription for more. That led to a series of questions and a command of "let us see the problem"! I replied that was not going to happen. And that the problem had gone away a week or so after the medicine was finished. But I needed the refill for the next time. They actually laughed and said that next to routine checkups THIS WAS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM MEN CAME TO THEM FOR. They said they had about one man a day come in with the problem and that the previous month they had three in one day. So after answering a series of questions, "yes, I still have a foreskin" and "no, there doesn't seem to be any scarring" she wrote me a prescription for some tubes of cream.

Makes me wonder about the scarring question and how they remove the scars...... I've had moles frozen off and...... Don't want to think about that.

I've got two skin conditions, one suffered primarily by elderly women, and the other suffered primarily by black women.

As a 38 year old white man, I am actually a strong, elderly, independent black woman who doesn't need no man.

I learned all this because I made myself go to the doctor for some embarrassing stuff. It's no fun, but these conditions would have gotten progressively worse.

My doctor is a very nice, young woman. For forty years it was two male doctors. Now a most kind and knowledgeable woman.

However - I DO understand the situation. Talking to a new doctor can be uncomfortable. Especially if it is some form of male plumbing problem.

I have developed a case of incontinence. I've found that my silence is not solving this situation. Once you "break the ice" - it's not all that bad.

This is not life threatening but it can be really tough getting any sleep at night.

For anyone with urination or flow problems or even a "wake up to pee every night" routine - get your prostate checked! Your future self will Thank you.

Don't let "being bashful and modest" get you killed. Leave your timid self outside the door of the exam room.

And a butt of advice for anyone listening...a prostate exam is much easier with a woman practitioner...or so I have been told

2 home remedies that worked.
I had the all usual enlarged prostrate problems. My friend had some laser surgery for the same...Lots of pain and complications. Yuk.
At 70 yrs I finally started taking a Saw Palmetto supplement that over time has worked. Been a year on this this and I can sleep through the night and pee a strong solid stream again. Getting old has it's challenges.
I had a common toenail fungus. Doctors prescribed a medication that required monthly liver checks... then cancelled the medication for health reasons befor the infection cleared up. Result was it came back and new doctor told me to live with it ???
I started packing my toenails with triple antibiotic paste like wheel bearings Am and PM... you old timers know the method. After a month of that and a little digging cleaning and repeat the Chit died off. Simple and harmless. Freaking Doctors....

When I was a kid, our family Dr would take off every other year and to missionary work. So every other year we'd get a different Dr.

I needed a physical for sports in grade school. We go to the Dr. office. I'm sitting in the room, the door opens, and, well.....

just imagine if Julie Childs walked in and in an English accent told you to "Drop your drawers!"



I've been to a few female Dr's since. I just think of my body as a machine and she's the mechanic. You just gotta disassociate for a bit.

What might help others reading this thread? Name the actual cream, triple anti biotic, medicine or
"cure" that helped with the issue described or discussed.
I'll start. Several years ago I went to a podiatrist for a ingrown toe nail. He fixed the toe nail, but, said
I had a form of athletes foot between my toes. Prescribed a gel/cream. It worked.
During some summers I can get what I call crotch rot from sweating, heat, material and skin friction etc
I tried everything to stop the insane itching but nothing worked. From Zinc oxide, Bisatracin, Desitine to Lotrimin.... nothing seemed to work. Finally tried the foot gel/cream, and it stopped the itch. Once
the 100+ temps start to ease off the rash will go away as the sweat conditions slow way down.
What worked for me Ciclopirox Gel 0.77%. Hope this helps someone. (getting old sux)

When I went DR shopping years ago, I asked to see their hands. They originally paired me up with a PA with some pretty large mitts. I said uh.. no. They said how about a female dr. I asked how big are her hands, she came out I examined her hands. We had a good laugh out if it, she is still my dr after about 35 years and my wife goes to her too.

When I went DR shopping years ago, I asked to see their hands. They originally paired me up with a PA with some pretty large mitts. I said uh.. no. They said how about a female dr. I asked how big are her hands, she came out I examined her hands. We had a good laugh out if it, she is still my dr after about 35 years and my wife goes to her too.

A co-worker advised me to shop for a short, skinny, Asian proctologist....small hands.

I ended up with Bubba, a genital giant of a man.

That was NOT the most embarrassing thing I've ever had. About fifteen years ago I had an epidimiases or inflamed cyst on one of my testicles. Everybody I dealt with was a female. I had ultrasounds every two weeks, always by a female. Not once did I embarrass myself. I was too scared and sore. According to one tech I elevated several inches above the table after she found the cyst with the probe. Just by tensing all the muscles in my body. The main doctor was a nurse practitioner who was a specialist in dealing with men. I usually had to have a shot for nausea and pain after her exams.

But she did have small thin fingers.

And I did make her laugh one time when I told her that it was the first time I had ever had my pants down around my ankles looking at the top of a woman's head and not enjoyed it.

When I saw your reply above, I was excited to try this Saw Palmetto. But then I thought I'd better see if there were any reactions to
Apixaban (anticoagualant) that I take for my afib heart condition.

Now, I don't know if I should try it or not, as taken together, there seems to be the likelyhood of causing excessive bleeding, especially in the stomach.

I have to get up about 3 times every night and the sleep interruptions just make me feel worn out and draggy the next day.

Oh well, at 79 I've put up with it long enough that I guess that the last bit time I have left won't matter that much.

But thanks for the info; maybe others, who have never heard of Saw Palmetto, can make use of it.

Always talk to your personal DR about over the counter supplements/drugs to find out about possible problems with existing meds you are on.
