Bob Rip,
I think you were addressing me? I did not own the 2422 when it had the 22HP Robin, so I can't evaluate any performance differences. The tram pump was replaced as well, at about the same time as the engine. Don't know if the pump is more displacement than the original or not. In any case the machine performs well, but I guess I do wish it had the later hi-torque wheel motors. :( To my knowledge, they are the originals, they seem to be able to spin individually, more than I would expect, I suppose because they are worn and bypassing more than when new. The machine shows almost 1500 hours on the meter.
Bill

Yes, I was. Thanks for the reply. I suspect that if my engine goes I will put in the 25 horsepower. Individual wheels will spin, but the extra power is then transfered to the wheel on the opposite side and end. No real loss of torque. It's not like a differential where the slipping wheel takes all of the power.

Of course if you decide to visit Harper's Ferry when the weather breaks, just give us a little notice, you and your son are always welcome to stop by here afterwards. The wife, and I would be happy to toss a few steaks on the grill, and we can sit out on the deck. It's pretty laid back around here. And of course that would go for any other fellow PT'ers passing through the area.
Don't know when I would get to come out that way but when I was there years ago I enjoyed it and as I am older now would enjoy it even more. I enjoy seeing the work of earlier generations ,I have learned a deeper appreciation of the hard work of these generations and to see a operating blacksmith shop would be interesting. Thanks for the offer for the cookout if I ever get to come out that way I will give you a call.

I’m now researching and getting into the lawn care, landscaping business. I know the competition is fierce. But, there is so much land, and construction going on in the adjacent Loudoun county areas.

If I decide to go that route, it also gives me a great excuse with the wife, to move up to a 425 in time. Short term, I can justify a nice 14 foot trailer for the little 180.

Anyone else use this machine for this purpose? I know after reading here for a few years now, that the 425 is a very capable machine. Of course I would use my beloved 180 on a limited basis for a long while to help build my business up.

Looking around here the other day my 180 could have made a lot of money just clearing sidewalks, driveways and parking lots. Perfect size, after watching the little Bobcats do the same thing they seemed to large, and over kill for the sidewalk areas. :)
