The cell tower spoof is creating a virtual tower electronically to do surveillance on cell traffic. You won't see a tower. No reason they couldn't do the same for wireless networks.
Nope, it wont work the same way. The stingray works because they can pretend to be the cell tower and they have the codes to say "Hello, I am a ATT tower" when your phone tries to connect.
It wont work with wifi because your phone/tablet/laptop has to be configured to connect to a wireless network. If you haven't connected to the network before, your device wont automatically connect to a new network.

And if a network called "Secret Service" does not require a key or password to connect, that's probably a clue that it's not Secret Service. :D

I don't know, it would be in line with the level of competence they have been showing lately :D

You do have a point there. Seems the dog handler at the latest white house fiasco was yapping on a personal cellphone and ignored his radio or could not hear it.. And I used to think they were the best of the best. Between the whoring and the total lack of attention, I sure have lost any respect I had of them.

I don't know. After probing several different ways I got a pop up message that said "you cannaot connect to this network". It may require a dongle that as a handshake built-in to eliminate passwords or "rogue" connections. No dongle, no connection.

I had heard that the one on his phone didn't hear the call cuz he took out his earpiece to talk on his cellphone.

Hopefully he's scooping out the stalls at the mounted police headquarters now.

I am thinking that the helper on a sewer vacuum truck (ie: the guy who goes down and breaks up the chunks so they fit in the hose) would be a better fit.

We had a 17 mile link with two good directional antennas and no amplification, just really high antenna and a clear line of sight. One was at 250' and the other was at about 500' up a 1000' tower. So, you could be getting something that is really far away, despite your remote location.
