Hour meters like my old David Brown had 4 digits that only measured when over 1400 r.p.m. A 3 digit meter that shows all engine run time is only good for maintainance scheduling.
And Kubota used 3 digit hour meters because???????

Alright meant for maintenance reasons.........But what if our trucks had 4 digit odometers to track maintenance, that would make it really fun to deal on a used truck, huh????? Yeah, it don't work well on tractors either.........
You flip 4 digits on an hour meter and the machine is pretty beat. Some to death, some still have life, some have a lot of life. But most are pretty dern wobbly after 9999 hours. (if they even get there)
If you average 30 mph in a car/truck after 9999 hours you will have traveled 300,000 miles. My truck has averaged 40.5 mph by comparison.
4 digit odometer, no. 4 digits hour meter, yes.
