Probably so - I think that range of hp difference from engine to pto seems pretty typical to me for that type of tranny. As a percentage of power lost its actually lower than some. I haven't looked across all the brands but I know if you compare it to others in that power range you'll find others have an even larger drop in pto hp.

I asked my dealer about steel prices affecting JD pricing and he told me that there is a small increase in pricing. But JD is absorbing most of the cost or pushing it off on their vendors. Wonder where the new engines are being manufactured? I didn't know they would be turbo's....Kyle

The new engine is american made - as to steel costs, it's tough to get someone else to absorb that hit - I'm sure it has to be passed along to use eventually. I know these big manufactures cut contracts for certain commodity items - I would think when the contract is renegotiated we'll have to see prices go up. One more thing I can think of - Deere uses a lot of plastics in the hood and operator deck - maybe that is helping keep costs steady as well.

The Deere engine is made is Dubuque, IA. It's going to be a similiar design to their skidsteer engines which has proven to be pretty much bulletproof. They have a useable range of up to 10,000 hours. They are an excellent motor and we will finally have a US made compact. This should pretty much silence the critics and establish deere as the undisputed leader in the compact industry. Nobody is even coming close to what deere is offering on a compact tractor.

I agree - that's generally the intent of my post as well. I think the large chassis tractor already is a compelling choice - with these updates I personally wouldn't have to look at anything else.

Take Care,

I always thought the Yanmar JDs were excellent. My personal favorite Deere as everybody knows is the 70 series but the top model being only 40 hp made some look away from them. Now Deere will have a big advantage since they will have a big HST.

I sure have no complaints with mine. The engine is just one part of the overall fine package. I agree, and think that Deere will make a strong move with this change - it certainly eliminates the complaints of country of origin.

By the way, no complaints here. Except for my original oil filter being installed with a 1" impact gun!!! Which resulted in it's complete destruction when I finally removed it! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I wish they had available a factory installed cab with air like Kubota does.
