A motorcycle dealer moved into the building next door to our house. He was one of the first BMW dealers in the country.

Don,

This has to be Kelly you are referring to, right? I forget his first name...I remember two of his shops on the North Side...and a white BMW he had at one time.

Also remember that one shop had a coin car wash next to it and he ocassionally took his St. Bernard over there and gave it a good washing. Not something I would recommend now, but the dog seemed healthy and happy at the time...

Love that BMW pic you posted...

I don't know if my first motorcycle would even qualify as a motorcycle these days. It was a maroon and gold Phillips 50cc, 2-stroke moped and it was called a moped for a reason. You could get up to about 40 mph downhill and on the flat but on any kind of hill you had to pedal like hell. Not "cool" but it got me where I wanted to go. I was so glad when I had saved enough money from my newspaper delivery job to get the Triumph Tiger Cub and start moving on up.

"I don't know if my first motorcycle would qualify...."

Same with me, in 1965 I had one of the original Honda 50's with the step thru design, graduated from there to a Honda Super 90, then a Honda 150, then a 160 Scrambler, then I left the Honda family for a Montesa 175 Enduro, back to a Honda 305 Scrambler, and finished in 1980 with a Honda CB 450. Sold that one in 1981 and never bought another bike.

However, my spouse and I have two Honda ATV's now.

A 1996 Yamaha Virago 535. A fantastic "learner" bike. Air cooled with shaft drive...I wish I still had it.

Motorcycles went away and were replaced with land, tractors, houses, trucks.............

My first bike was a Honda CL175. Got it with no front end. Wanted to use the motor for a Go-Kart. Found a front end for cheap, and used it for a dirt bike around the property.

Next was a Suzuki tl125 enduro, parted it out
Then, a Honda CR450R, sold it
Then... A Yamaha YZ250, sold it after wipinig out my knee on it,
Then on to the street from there...
A '81 Honda XL500, sold it
then Suzuki GS550E, sold it
then... Harley FXRS that I still have..
Just got another Yamaha YZ250, the same as I bought new in '87...
