Another 2210 Leaking

At 2.3 hours on the clock, my 2210 is leaking the red stuff /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Emailed the dealer today to arrange a pick-up.

There's a hydraulic assembly just below the seat. This assembly has the SCV bolted to it and 3pt hitch fast/slow control goes into it. Where this assembly is bolted to the main trans case is what appears to be the leak source.

I'll post the dealer's comments and repair once received.

I got my tractor back from the dealer yesterday. They replaced the gasket between the rockshaft control valve body and the main trans case. Sounds like yours is leaking from the same place. I haven't had a chance to run my tractor so I can't verify that the repair was successful, I'll do so by the weekend.

On another note, the dealer put on a mid-pto shaft cover at no charge even though JD says the 2210 is not shipping with this cover. Might want to look to see if you got one.

Finally, the issue about the very stiff operation of the rockshaft rate/drop control knob is unresolved. The dealer told me if they could get one they would just replace it, but it would take a month to get the part. In the meantime they have asked JD about whether this normal for the 2210. The dealer has already confirmed that none of the other JD compacts are hard to adjust.

I would suggest that 2210 owners check the operation of this valve. The symptom on mine is that, starting with a heavy load (~500 lb. ballast) raised on the three point hitch, and the valve closed to lock the hitch in place, that the valve can then be very difficult if not impossible to open to allow lowering of the hitch.

Sounds familiar. I had mine back in a few working days, mostly waiting for a replacement bracket. My trustworthy shop tech told me it was a most likely caused by an over-torqued bolt on the bracket under the seat, near (or attached to) the assembly you described. The female threads on the bracket were stripped.

FYI, in the reassembly the shop tech added spring-type lock washers to the four large bolts that are used to mount the top link plate to the trans case. It seemed like a logical preventive measure. I would be interested to here if there is some kind of service bulletin issued on upper bracket issue, or whatever your turns out to be.

Dealer says a bum gasket behind the SCV caused the leak. The new gaskets/seals are scheduled to arrive 3/13. I plan to check the JD Parts site for an exploded view of the SCV area. I'd like to get an idea of what gasket failed.

Also, they installed the mid-pto cover. I'll post any updates once the tractor is returned.

Wahoo! my tractor was returned this morning after one week at the dealer. The dealer replaced the SCV to rockshaft control valve seal, and the rockshaft control valve to main trans case gasket.

The leaks appear to have stopped /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif but the party didn't last /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Now the 3pt control lever won't center /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif! The lever raises and lowers the 3pt just fine, it just won't center, as if the detent is missing.

Soooo this morning I called the dealer and arranged another pick-up. The tech said, "Something must have come loose in there". Hummmm... maybe, or maybe something was forgotten during re-assembly?! Whatever it turns out to be the tractor was picked-up this morning for this new repair.

So very close to having my tractor back! I'll post info on this repair as it pans out.

Wahoo again! The tractor was returned this afternoon as promised. 3pt hitch control is now working as designed and centers just fine. Cause: During reassembly of the 1st repair, the tech forgot to install the detent.

No leaks so far from that repair or the 1st. Did a test run then parked the tractor over cardboard to reveal any drips. I plan to also check for leaks during this week's run time.

Can't say enough about the tech. He admitted to his mistake (pretty rare nowadays) and his courtesy was top notch. Plus the tractor was picked-up, repaired and returned within 5 hours. That's darn good! Additionally, upon my request the dealer topped-off the fuel tank and gave me two paint pens for touch-ups.

Hopefully the next "service" done on this tractor will be the first oil/filter change.

<font color="green"> I've got my fingers crossed that I am not going to be the next with a 2210 leak. Up to 6 hours on the meter of my 2210 as of yesterday. I keep looking. Sounds like some cardboard under my tractor is in order to really be able to tell.

Thanks for mentioning the paint pens. I'll need to buy one from the dealer when I pickup the filters needed for the 50 hour fluid changes.

So far I am real pleased with my purchase. Can't wait for my box blade and rear grader blade to arrive to see what this tractor can really do to tackle some of my landscaping needs. So far the FEL has proved adequate for my needs.
