Just completed the 50-hour service on my B2410 tonight. Nothing much new here, just thought I'd be a good TBN'er and report in. Besides, it keeps me away from the TV news for a few minutes.
Engine oil and filter were pretty easy, filter and drain plug are more accessible than on either of the vehicles I maintain. Looks like the fill capacity is 3.6-3.7 qts. with the filter change. Right before the change I had noticed that the oil light would stay on momentarily after I started the engine (maybe a second or so). After the change the light now goes out immediately again. This kind of surprises me, but I had let the oil get down about 1/3 quart, so maybe the level did it.
The hydraulic fluid took a little longer, but I went pretty slowly. Took out the four drain plugs (did the center rear one first). All the plugs were pretty easy to get at. I then removed the strainer and the two filters. The strainer had a little ring of metal shavings/slivers near the hex head end, so I cleaned those off. They looked more like leftovers from machining instead of wear products but I don't know for sure. I put the strainer and suction line back, put on the new filters, and filled it up with new fluid.
Checked the tire lug nut torque and checked the air filter too, but everything was in order. Also lubed the grease fittings.
All in all this wasn't too tough a job to perform. I didn't have any problems with different filter part numbers or screwy sizes, so I was happy about that.
If anybody is getting ready to do this, the wrench/socket sizes are:
- Engine oil drain plug 19 mm (3/4-inch should work too)
- Transmission drain plugs 17 mm (3) and 14 mm (1)
- Transmission strainer hex 26 mm
I think the transmission info applies to a B7500 as well.
