Another BX plugged fuel filter.

I installed a water separator From a b series. Picked up at dealer yesterday. Still need to run fuel lines. Waiting for snow to be over. This idea was from Paul Short.

Why did you choose this one as apposed to the one Paul used which appears to be shorter? I want to do this same mod in the spring so I'm looking for the smallest filter, something smaller than the smallest Racor. Thanks.

I selected this one because it's smaller in dia, and no return line to mess with. Also has shut off like Pauls. Cost at dealer was $52.00 compared to over $85.00 for others. Thanks.

Yup. You've got a nice looking mod going there. I like it. The fuel shutoff is important and I like the filter you chose. Do you have the part number by chance? Thanks again.

I installed a Racor yesterday on mine. Not near as clean an install as some others have done but I hope it helps. The Racor does hang down a bit but I think it will be ok.

Dodge man do you have a pic?

It may be a few days, but I'll post up a few pics of my install. Its really cold here and the tractor is tucked away. At some point I'll have to paint the bracket I made also. My install is similar to Scoobys as far as the location but a little more forward. I also didn't install mine where its pulling from the suction side of the pump but installed it in line on the way to the main injection pump. I debated on how to hook up the lines. The plus to the way Scooby installed his is that its the recommended method by Racor. The downside of Scooby's install is that it requires about 10 feet of extra fuel line where the way I installed it in line on the outlet side of the lift pump it required very little extra fuel line, just a couple of feet. I felt all the extra fuel line and such a small lift pump might hurt fuel getting to the main injection pump as well. I should also add my install was easier and being lazy and in a hurry with some snow coming also affected my install method, but I pretty much had it worked out in my head before hand.

The downside to my install also is that I removed the rear fuel filter which leaves the lift pump unprotected. I don't anticipate this being a problem but I could see where it might get damaged. My install also in theory won't allow the Racor setup to remove the water as well, but in my opinion the BX doesn't draw huge amounts of fuel and will allow the water to get removed as needed.

I wish I had a welder and some of the skills as some of the other people do, my install is pretty crude in comparison. I will start a new thread and some pics and short blurb about my install compared to others.

Thanks dodge man. I think I will plumb mine before the fuel pump. Coming from the Heavy duty truck industry, I will opt to put it as the primary filter. Just finished moving 4" of snow. Now maybe I can plumb it if I get a couple of days of decent weather. 12hr days limit eve time. Looking forward to your pics.

I think plumbing it before the lift pump will be fine. It just seemed an long way and a lot of fuel line for it to gravity from the tank, all the way forward to the Raycor filter, then all the way back to the lift pump. I mounted my filter on a piece of flat steel that came with a bunch of holes already drilled in it, kind of like a piece of erector set. I cut this down to where it is about a foot long. I then mounted the setup on two holes forward of the loader on the side of the frame where there were already two holes in the frame. On my tractor one hole was open and the other had a bolt and nut in it that held a bracket securing fuel or hydraulic lines to the back side of the frame.

I really wanted to mount mine on the back of the tractor. Up above the three point on the back of the fenders would have been good but it is higher than the fuel tank outlet. There just isn't anyplace except up toward the front of the tractor. Space limitations is probably why the factory went with the poor fuel filters the BX came with.
