The topic/main subject of this is not in any way accusing Egon of anything...just trying to get his attention on where were left off in the closed thread...
The recent Climate intensity thread in the snow removal forum was closed because someone went over the top with partisan political rhetoric...Yes the thread topic pushed the window on tolerable discussions that have political overtones... But it's too bad it had to be closed...since the AGW concept has been facing increased amount of scrutiny of late...and rightfully so...
@Egon...
To carry on...
The link I posted about glaciers explains about layers of snow compressing the layers below and the crystalline properties under pressure etc..
As for the states of matter...Here on earth I think we are aware of 4 states...Solid, Liguid, Gas, and Plasma...
perhaps I have not kept up enough on the topic?...
Now that brings up another possibility that there are other more impressive states that could possibly lead to the types of discoveries that might revolutionize the portable energy issues talked about in the EV threads etc..
Now a question for you...Does dark matter have the same states?

Well, for starters ice ages keep getting mentioned. During these periods there is a very large acumulation of ice. How does this ice keep accumulating if the temperatures are below freezing? That is the question!
You do not have to go into the making of a glacier. That I found out about more than fifty years ago. By the way you seem to have forgotten there is a triple point for the state of many solids, fluids and vapours. All phase changes are dependant on pressure and temperature in basic formulation.
