Another question for you Mith...

I was wondering if you wax the top / bottom / or both sides of your mower blades ?

Which do you recommend ?

Dang this is a great forum, too bad I'm a bit seasonal with forums, but I know where I'll be reading for the next couple months (unless, I get helplessly drawn in beyond any chance of recovery /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ).

Anyway, there might actually be some logic to waxing the inside of a deck...anybody crazy enough to try it and report back?! Also, does anybody know if the deck wash on the 05 Cub Cadets and some of the MTDs actually works? Looks like a gimick, but, if it works, I'm finding a way to rig one into my 04 Snapper (I got a pro commercial for residential price [a model a year and a few hours driven around the parking lot saved some serious cash], so I'm not looking to start a brand loyal battle on a fun looking thread like this).

Well,,,

I'll buy a new deck every year before I start waxing there...

I usually clean it with pressure washer pretty much yearly when I replace the blades.... otherwise I dont mess with much under there.

I would just sharpen the blades but mine is a mulcher the the cutting edge is wavy and far to much trouble to try to sharpen at all the angles. New blades are just not expensive enough to worry about hours spent trying to sharpen the old ones.

happy mowin - its that time of year again - at least here....

well at £400 a go, im not about to start buying a new deck every year /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

not kidding here, i repain the deck on the most used of my garden tractors every year. thats strip it down, sand/gring off all the paint, and repaint black ontop and red underneath.

seeming as most of the paint was still there (not great season, only 4 mows with that mower) i sprayed it off. Gunna go out and wax it, see if it collects any better. Be cool if it does, cos it collects badly if atall at the moment.

the other decks, sod that, maybe this year /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i try to pressurewash the decks every now and again, thay collect better this way and you get less vibrations for some reason /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

btw, ive bin mowing since feburary, mowing mud, but nonetheless mowing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tom, just noticed your other question. Wax the top of the blades, this was the galss will flow over it faster giving better lift (like an aeroplane) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif might do something.....naaaaa

Spiffy, just noticed your post, looks like im gunna be the pioneer towards waxing yer decks. Let you know how it goes.
when you say the deck wash on the mowers, do you mean the hose clips on them where you run the blades with a hose on?
if so, it works OK, you can tell the decks where they use this and the ones that dont. the problem with it is that the hot mower bearings suck up the water causing them to rust prematurely and sieze. so its up to you, wouldnt be too hard to fit i guess

Cheers (Tom, i will always notice your comments /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

Hey check it out, the 500th post, platinum member /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, time for a new account it hink, woulnt want anyone knowing how much time i spend on here.
And to think about 2% were spent responding to Toms accusations against me waxing me tractors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
