This may have been posted before, sorry for your loss.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Not much more I can add that hasn't been said already. My condolences to you and your family. I have a 10 year old Golden Retriever...he's my best buddy. I also have a pug.....ha....we call them the "Odd Couple" they are inseparable.

Turbo...I always have a hard time reading that. Can't keep a dry eye. :(

We know when we get them that this day will come; but that doesn't make it any easier. It seems that you gave Dually and his buddy a good life.

Take care

I'm not familiar with the breed, but what a handsome boy.

We are mourning with you and know that what you did for Dually, you did out of love. Dually will be waiting for you to join him at the Bridge.

Sorry to read about your loss. You picture shows a fantastic farm for a doggie to be at. He enjoyed a wonderful life.

I hate these threads, they always bring a tear because I know just what you're feeling.
It's the toughest decision we have to make as animal lovers.
Just rest assured that you made the right one for him and he'll be waiting on the otherside with nothing but love in his heart.

Dogs should to be made to last longer than man. As a species, they are certainly more worthy than the short life they are endowed with. Sorry for your loss.

Huge, but handsome dog. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

I wish I could say something more than I'm sorry. Arrow said it well.

I lost the best dog that ever owned me last week to cancer. I wonder how I'll ever get over her. Maybe someday we both will.

Good luck, Mark

Mark, I am sorry to hear of your loss too. We lost a rottie to cancer a few years ago. She was having problems so we decided to have some exploratory surgery. Long story short, they found cancer that for some reason had not been detected so we made the hard decision.

At least with Dually, we knew it was time and for the best though it is still a loss.

Having had a long history with dogs, I thought that I would never have another dog so special but I was wrong. Looking back, I have had a number of "special" dogs. The thing is to me at least is that they are special in their own way. You just need to let go of any pre-expectations of friends of the past.

For example, my other dog in the photo, Oscar is as I said, a Belgium Malinois. The breed is somewhat like a border collie for example in that they generally do not make a good house dog. Oscar, another rescue, is a trained drug dog and a certified therapy dog. I guess due to his training, you cannot get him up on a sofa (which is probably a good thing). He does have the ability to bring a smile to the most sullen face though (along with the ability to find the stash, lol).

Anyway, thanks to all who have expressed their kind thoughts. I don't think that I had better show this thread to my wife though. The poem that turbo36 posted would probably do her in. Very touching.
