It could very well be a relay- but I would first have you tell us how old your battery is?
Could be a marginal battery- they are particularly prone to acting up as the weather starts getting colder. You say it sits for long periods of time, with no regular use which also can kill a battery- especially if you are not using a battery tender to keep it close to full state of charge. Note I said a battery tender, NOT a trickle charger.
Post back the age and condition of your battery, and any maintenance you have done or not to same.
