On the subject of good wire and bad.. I've spent considerable time searching out the best wire and in my opinion, INE wires are the best and all I use. They sell not only solid wire but flux core as well. I buy their wires in bulk now, Good stuff.

Agree on the INE. Not sure if it's still the case, but I have heard/read that the HF wire is repackaged INE, but won't know until I use up the current INE spool.

The flux wire I've been using is HF. It's good stuff. The slag just jumps off the weld if you let it cool down some. Makes a good weld easy too.

Check out the welders at Eastwood.com, nice machines, decent prices, great warranty. A friend has one and is quite happy with it. And they might be a little cheaper than comparable HF welders.

Make sure what ever you buy that it has the metal drive gears. Some machines have plastic. Always unwind your hose all the way out on a mig welder so the wire will flow freely

Look at PrimeWeld it is flux core also gas, stick, and aluminum comes with an aluminum. Spool gun. With a 3 year warranty they are based in new jersey all for about 500 to 550 they have great customer service. I have 2 miller's one with a spool gun, a htp tig. The PrimeWeld is my go to machine. I have some farm welding to do to make an adapter for front bucket to use on other machines. I’ll be using 1/2” steel plate. Have Millermatic 211. Have heard that using flux core wire with shielding gas will make deeper welds. Any thoughts on this? I know I can’t do a one pass weld, will need to build up. If gas + flux core wire is better I might try using. Thanks.

I believe you are referring to dual shielded wire ... NOT standard fluxcore. I've never used it since I use stick on bigger stuff. .045 wire and the 211 may not be up to the task, but I'll defer to someone who has used the double shielded wire. also it changes you to a spray transfer vs the globular/short circuit transfer.

I live on the eastern shore of VA and I have a 17 mile bridge/tunnel system (CBBT) to cross, hence the tolls.

I own a pair of older Hobart Handler 210's. Excellent welders however, the older ones are transformer based, the newer ones are IGBT based.

Even the Lincoln MIG's are Chinese.

According to the Hobart website, the Handler 210 MVP weighs in at 79 lbs and is a transformer machine. Their closest equivalent IGBT machine weights in at 38 lbs.
