Another metal carport question

I've been looking at several brands of <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.eaglecarports.com/carports.html>this type of metal carport</A> and they all include assembly. I'd just as soon put it up myself. Does anyone know of a brand that sells the materials only so the purchaser can put it up?

I've seen a similar unit at the local Super Wally Store. I'm sure they don't assemble.

I checked at Walmart and they do have one. But, it's only a 12'x20', has a seam in the roof panels, and no trim, for $769. The others I've looked at are bigger, have continuous panels, and cost $695 for a 18'x21' one. I was hoping to save some money by putting it up myself, not pay more!

I've looked for the DIY kits, too, with no luck, and have decided to have them install one. They just dropped the price to $595.00 in our area....SOLD!

Why don't you just design and make your own?

I figure $60.00 a square (ten by ten feet) for skin and screws. Purlins are fifty cents to a dollar a linear foot. Two and three eighths pipe twelve gauge is less than a buck per foot.

Let's say you want a twenty by twenty.

Six posts, three on each side, twelve feet long each. $72.00

Two six inch purlins running on top of the posts, $40.00

Five six inch purlins on four foot centers on top of and perpendicular to the ones on the posts $100.00

Four squares, seven sheets twenty feet long. $240.00

If you want trim figure about buck and a half to two dollars a linear foot. That's carport trim on three sides and a gutter on the fourth. $160.00

About six hundred dollars and you have a larger, better built, and slicker'n snot on a cow's lip carport.

As they say in France in the springtime, "nuttin' to it".

wroughtn_harv - Your suggestion would be cheaper and better in the long run. However, I don't have enough time to do it that way right now. I need something in kit form so I can put it up quick.

Mosey, the brochure I have in my hand says Carolina Carports, Inc. The size they advertise for $595 is 18'x21', 14 gauge with 5 ft. legs. I will have them add another foot to the legs for an additional $40. Lots of local dealers around these parts have them advertised but they don't necessarily promote the name brand. They look just like the Eagle carport, with your choice of colors, etc. They were priced at $795 about 2 or 3 years ago, and have been steadily decreasing the price since then, for the same unit (so they say).

I found Carolina Carports on the web, <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.carolinacarportsinc.com>http://www.carolinacarportsinc.com</A>, and called their 800#. They don't go into Indiana, but stop 70 miles south of me at the Kentucky border. Rats!
