I noticed that the 3 page supplemeny to the owners manual (Specifically addressing both dealers AND owners) states that SA models 221, 324 or 424 with the backhoe MUST either use wheel weights attached to the rims of the rear wheels, or fill the rear wheels with liquid for weight.
Mine came with neither.
Anyone else have the rear wheels of their TLB model weighted, per Yanmar's specifications?
colsonbrooke, you were right. This insert does only apply to the 424 TLB. The 324 TLB and 221 TLB are not mentioned.
Still no water in my tires though. I like your idea about the lead weights under the backhoe, but I'm thinking about testing the water just to see how it affects performance.
...I'm not driving over any finely manicured lawns with my tractor...

I noticed the part that engages the 4x4 seems small. I roll the tractor some releasing the pressure on the gears until the lever comes up effortlessly.

Raymondjunk, the water will work good and will make the tractor better balanced when lifting the full 1200 lbs. And digging in heavy soil will improve traction and prevent premature tire wear. Check the book, I believe you only have to add 50% of the tire with water to get to your target weight. .... I actually bought mine new from a place in tampa. They are closing their Yanmar sales. I was told they had no sales, I just don't fell they moved them right.

I drove 2 hours to pick mine up from Zephyrhills and the dealer there is the one who's been handling the issue engaging 4wd. I would love to have bought from a new dealer who just started up much closer to me, but he was not able to match the price of the unit 2 hrs. away at the more established dealer.
Anyway, the new guy is actually doing better than he anticipated, and even the regional Yanmar rep told me this new guy's been on fire selling these new compact units. I also know that Yanmar is opening 2 more dealerships within 50 miles or so.
I'm excited and as I've seen in other threads here, Yanmar is obviously in expansion mode right now. Sounds like the Tampa dealer might just be opening up an opportunity for someone else in the area...

What did u pay? I got a FEL with the backhoe 20,900. That was a 1000 less then other places I checked. And they offered me a second for 19,400.

Mine was all-in @ 20,378. The local guy looked at the offer and said he couldn't come close to that. Turns out mine was a 2015 model and his were all 2016, but for about a $1,500 savings, the few extra hours on the engine of a new tractor didn't deter me.

raymond...glad you got your 4WD issue straightened out. The 424 is a nice tractor. I got quotes on one before finding a really nice used Kubota.

I just want to make a general "4WD" comment here. Most people think owing a 4WD vehicle, they'll be able to plow through anything, snow, mud...whatever and never get stuck. Most, at one time or another, find out this is not true. The problem with 4WD vehicles is 99% have "open differentials". Once one tire starts to spin/slip the other will do nothing! So even in 4WD if one tire in the front and rear are slipping...you're going nowhere. That is why most tractors will have a differential lock in the rear so both tires will turn no matter what. A locking diff in the front of a compact tractor really doesn't make sense seeing the front tires are so small. As others have mentioned applying some "brake" helps some when you don't have a locked diff.
