Did you need the block hooked to the tree to be able to pull that log? What is your winch rated for? Nice pictures.
The block just changes the direction of pull. The tree was laying 90* to the road so I used the block to pull it straight out. Then I unhooked the block and got it around the corner. First the butt log then the second log. Then I hooked them both and pulled them to the tractor. Snatch blocks are really useful. Here is another one. Pulling a fir log up a bank. I put the block high to help lift it. My winch is rated at 6400 lbs and my tractor weighs 5000 lbs.
