NEWBURGH — A Newburgh man was killed Tuesday morning when the tractor he had been riding rolled over on top of him.
Frank Prescott, 75, had been helping one of his friends, Charles Dunton, by cutting brush on Dunton’s Lindsey Road property with a towed device similar to a lawn mower, Trooper Darren Vittum of the Maine State Police said. Prescott had gotten 20 feet into the brush when he drove over a sharp drop-off and rolled the tractor.
“The way stuff had grown up it looked flatter than it was,” Vittum said.
Prescott was found when a friend and neighbor, Rodney Overlock, noticed smoke rising into the air, Vittum said. Prescott died shortly after emergency officials arrived on the scene.
