Another Simple Little Quick Connect Tool

I built a tractor snow plow from an old Fisher truck plow. The angle cylinders were full of ancient ATF which I emptied out but I wanted to flush out the cylinders several times with tractor fluid before I allowed any to return to the tractor tank. I have 1/4" QC's on the cylinders so I can disconnect the plow frame from the SSQA plate. I did the flushing in the normal way by alternately extending one cylinder with the 3rd function button while letting the collapsing cylinder drain into an oil pan. At the end of each cycle unplug one QC and connect the other. I made this little clamp to hold the QC open so the fluid could be pushed out. Bent scrap of sheet metal with a nut brazed on it. The fluid looks gross because of all the snow I knocked down into the bucket. This little thing is probably to simple to mention here but I got the idea from a special pair of QC pliers I saw posted here a while back and thought someone may find this useful.

That is a great idea. Beats cracking the lines. I would even go one step farther and make the hex head, drilled through with a captive handle, so no wrench would be required.

I also considered building one with the U welded to the upper jaw a of a ViseGrip and a tube with a "concave" welded to the lower jaw. The adjustability of the ViseGrip would make it a single (no other tools required) tool. I also considered a circle with multiple size "U"s for different size couplers that would rotate for the upper jaw.


I am guessing to much liability to build these to sell. Some one would get sprayed/injured using it on a high pressure line and SUE.

If JD was making it, it would have a hose and a little plastic bottle to keep the three drops of oil from contaminating mother earth!

Tack weld nut to "U" bracket and put (weld) a rod across bolt head to form a tee handle ..... No tools needed....

Why not use a female open ended quick connect to do the same thing. Uncouple it and your done.

The idea is to depress the ball, release the internal pressure so one can "easily" push on female connector....

Just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. Your "pushing" new fluid from your tractor into one cylinder (the empty one) and allowing the full one to flow into a bucket. Then reversing the process. So your "adding" fluid to the tractor as you do this to accomplish the flushing?

Whether I obtain new cylinders or reuse the old ones, I think I'm relegated to doing something like this.
