Now, as a bonus question. While walking over to take the above pics I saw this. Been here 26 years & not seen one of these before. It is about 2 1/2" long. Any ideas?

Looks like some kind of physical therapy range of motion measurement device.

I'm gonna guess that is some kind of monarch caterpillar with a mutation.

I've also just read something about monarch caterpillar black death. I'm no expert. You could try your local parks department, county extension agent, university, etc.

Going by the name on the dial ... I Step, a quick search shows modern I Step equipment to check your feet.
I assume stance, arches etc.

I'd guess a primitive version to check posture, feet etc.
