anti-freeze & air cleaner EVERY year?

Thanks Markie. I've removed and cleaned the outer element once already, but there's no evidence of any dust, dirt or clogging on the inner filter. Maybe I clean and change the outer element more than is necessary, so I don't think I'm swapping the inner element on the third time. I'll probably be waiting until the 1000 hr mark, or maybe even more. I'll just wait to see some evidence of fouling first. Right now, it looks like the outer element is getting everything and NOTHING is getting through. I really like the idea of the inner "safety" element, but at the cost of these things, unnecessary changing seems excesive and are certainly costly. Also, I really don't like the "blow dust from the inside to the outside ... with ... 30 psi or less. At 30 psi I think damage could be done. Usually, to me, if the filter is at all dirty, I just wash it and put a spare on while it dries. I then put the clean one away for the next time. Anyway, thanks again for all the info. I think I'll be following NH's recommendations only somewhat.

Mike,

Thanks for the link

I will change fluid & filter as it is cheap insurance. Just a PITA to deal with the old anti-freeze.

The upside is that this will be a good time to install the block heater that I should have gotten with the tractor. - It is garaged, but last winter it was <20 deg in the garage! The machine started, but sounded kind of rough untill she warmed up.

Hazmat...What do you plan to use for a block heater ? I'm looking to do the same. If you don't mind, let me know what you find.

Forgot to mention, I recommend changing the air filter when you show a 75% restriction on the gauge. Mainly because the remaing amount plugs up relatively fast after that point. Also, they are great for many engines, but I've found them to be useless in V8 gas engines with high air flow demands. The airflow on these when throttle is wide open causes an instant 100% restriction rating.
