Tractor
Ford 4600
Can someone give me some ideas on how to secure a tractor stored out in the open. Are there any good solutions? The tractor is a Ford 4600

I can't speak specificly about your Ford. (paint it green and we'll know more about a green 4600...)

You can buy a used shipping container for about $1100. That makes a great secure garage. That seems to be the best advice. about anything else is pretty easy to overcome if they want your tractor. Heavy chain, whatever...

I know there is a long thread about this somewhere. I searched for it but couldn't find it, maybe you will have better luck.

Adam33- Slightly off the topic......Depending on where you live LoJack might be available for, heaven forbid, recovery purposes. They have given construction equipment product focus as there are significant theft problems in some regions of the country.

There are hundreds of ways to secure your tractor in the field.
But if they want it bad enough, you'll be calling your insurance agent.

Quick tips,

You can disable the electrical system by hiding a switch to prevent starting.

Best way I've found if I had to leave it for a few days is just take one of the front tires off. If you have a FEL its quick and easy. If not just take the battery with you.

Keep searching for solutions and you'll find what you need.
My biggest fear is not taking the tractor but a knife blade in the tire or sand in the fuel tank

Hope this helps /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Insurance. Have it covered for the replacement value, If it's stolen, pray they don't find it. You get a new tractor. If they want it bad enough, there is no way to stop them. Locks and chains just stop it from walking away. Put lowjack on the new one!

"You can buy a used shipping container for about $1100"
Nope, expect twice that for a 20 footer delivered. It was for me.

I greatly value the shipping container as a deterent for vandalism, theft, or unauthorized use. I believe the liability of leaving the tractor outside, even locked, is substantial.

You can not stop a determined thief, the best thing is to prevent the casual oppurtunity thief from easy pickings. If you must leave it out there in the open, try to find a good hiding place and maybe some of that camoflauge netting to hide it well.

Amazing what 2 gallons of oil based enamel will do inside and out. Olive drab, plus I have cut vents in to help prevent condensation. The box was delivered in very loud orange/brown with lots of big labels on it. Not very pretty but only skin deep.

Moveable too.
