6000 hrs with the additive? That is the lifetime for majority of tractors out there. I would never trust a manufactures claims until years go by and a track record is established. The AF may last that long but how do you know a key ingrediant is lacking/used up over the years without laboratory testing??

I have seen too many claims for wonder products out there over the years and many after years of use do not perform as claimed.

Antifreeze is cheap. I change mine very 1.5-2 years. Takes around one gallon for my tractor-that $11-12 ever 2 years. Cheap insurance.

Everyone should be using distilled water also and not tap water.

That is what test kits are for. You know how much money Cat spends on R&D?? You also need to realize the 6,000 hours is 4 to 5 years for bigger operators.

They put a lot of money in to their R& D for a reason.

I will be testing what ever I choose to use. It will be pre mixed, as I am on well water.

It is only $14/4L jug, so not terribly expensive if I decide to just change it in two years.

6,000 hours is far from the end of a tractor.

I changed the anitfreeze 2 weeks ago on my GC, hadn't had time to post till now. I noticed the green was starting to gel in my overflow. Has anyone else noticed this??

I picked up my antifreeze and I am ready to change it. Problem is I do not know the easiest way.:confused2: Took a quick look under the Massey and did not see a drain plug. Is there one or what is the easiet way to drain the old fluid.:confused2:

There should be a drain cock below the rad. I know there is on the 1600 series, on the right side, below the injector pump.

It should be no differant than my 1423, should be on the right side. I just put prestone in my 1423, plus water pump lube.

What did you use for water pump lube??

Yes, there is a drain on the radiator.

I just pull the lower hose off, makes draining/flushing faster.

Mine has a drain that you can see if you look on the left side (sitting on the tractor) It is mounted on the frame rail, look for a white thumb screw you will see one hose going to the block and one to the radiator.

Its call Bars water pumplube, its for anti-rust in your cooling system,
Lubricates water pump seals , protects all metal, plastic and rubber parts. It can hurt to put it in.

Finnally got around to changing my antifreeze. Put the tractor up on ramps just to make it easier to work with. Found the drain plug on the left side off the engine, when I looked before and didn't see it, it was because I was looking underneath the tractor.:confused2::eek:. Use Prestone for Diesel engine that I got on sale at TSC here in Canada.
