guys, I have a family of JD's ranging from 6000 series to the good ol 55' series. My JD dealer insist on me using JD coolant... its 20 bucks a gallon!! is there any other subsitute i can use??? he says regular antifreeze has an additive for alum head motors that will damage the engine??? anyone else heard this?? any help would be grealy appreciated

Go to the JD website and look at the on-line tractor manuals under the coolant section for the tractors you own. It seems each engine type has very slightly different requirements (anti-cavitation additives, anti-corrosion additives, etc.).

Look under the "coolant" section in the manuals and you will find the alternatives to JD COOL-GARD.

Shouldn't take more than 1-2 minutes per tractor to find the exact information you need.
