Thank you for all the responses. I contacted the dealer and am waiting on him to find out if its still covered under warranty. I have an extended 60 month warranty, so think it will be covered. I pulled out the original paperwork when I bought the Gator and was happy to see where I had paid $1400 for the 5 year warranty.

The service manager at John Deere thinks its most likely the thermostat or worst case a blown head gasket. I will post once the problem is figured out.

When I first got my new M6040 I added antifreeze to the overflow tank. It looked a "tad" low. I later learned it was just fine the way it was. I was horrified when I saw a small pool of antifreeze on the ground. I traced it back to the overflow tank. It was discharge from the tank overfill hose. Became abundantly obvious - tank was full to the bloody top - antifreeze still present in the overfill hose. What a relief .........

I am wondering if there was a way to pressure test. I would check and resnug up the radiator hose clamps.

I had an X740 JD that loses tank antifreeze until it is almost empty but the rad. is always to the top. I just keep an eye on it.

Let the extended warranty pay for the fix.
I am thinking head gasket, water pump or belt, thermostat, or cooling fan/fan switch failed.

UPDATE when you know!

O/flow tank should be near empty when cold, near full when warm. Easy cheap pressure/integrity test is to look at the level in it. If it stays full when cold there's a leak drawing air in. If its never the same as op temps vary the system is tight.

Pressure test by plumbing to o/flow tube at filler neck and teeing in a gauge. Use a dummy cap with the small rubber ring removed. Do NOT apply more than 15 PSI if you can help it. Radiators may be tested to 30 PSI, but some won't handle 20 after so many years. A proper cap will pop off at 15. :2cents:
