Fire ants are pretty easy to kill with all sorts of products out there that work. The trick is keeping up with using it. Once you take out a colony, another will appear. They are always expanding and starting new colonies. Just like other ants, there is a queen who never stops laying eggs. You have to kill the queen. You have to kill the queen at every mound.

Will raking the tops off hurt anything? I want to clear the area back so we can get in and out. Waist high weeds now make it tough.

No, raking the top off will not hurt anything. Likewise, it won't solve the ant problem. Like Eddie said - lots of chemicals will put them down. I WOULD NOT suggest burning - an ant hill can smolder/burn for a long time and ultimately start a fire. I fill a five gallon bucket with ant hill/ants and make a mad dash for my lake. A real treat for the bass.

I agree.

Lol, I bet Eddie Thanks for the advice, I am going to scrape the debris back off of this and burn it this weekend then we will spread a granular bait then follow up again in a week or so. Having a tough time finding a granular bineffrin bait, but coop said once I find the product they can probably order it.

I hope to find it feed sack size bag. The effected area is about 1.5 acres, spread out of course. About 25 hills I know about,

If you use the granular formulation, you will need about 125 lbs per acre. If you can spray it, you will need about 43 ounces per acre of the 7.9%. Spraying in will cost less, but if you don't have a sprayer, you will get the same results with the granular.

Remember that bifenthrin is sold under many different brand names. So, when you go to the co-op, read the label on all of their insecticides to see if they have one with bifenthrin as the active ingredient.

And, it can be packaged in different concentrations, so be sure to read and follow the label to make sure you apply at the correct rate.

Thanks Aron that is cheaper than the granular and free shipping.

I have a pull behind and a backpack sprayer. I can get the open area w the pull behind and the wooded area with the backpack.
