Have several ant hills on my property. I just leave them alone. Fascinating little creatures.

Yes, I never broke anthills if it possible avoid it, they scare snakes away on home yard.

Thatching ants..... and may want to back up a tad as some species bite and inject formic acid similar to fire ants.
You have caught them in the act of thermal regulation.

When My phone is near the anthill making video I can wheel that ants start spread they acid on Me, very strong smell...

We call them "thatching ants" here.

They are referred to as "wood ants" in Europe.
Same Genus..... "Formica".......different species..."Rufa"
