Any 2016 Ford F-550 V-10 gas owners?

I only work locally so a 40 gal tank is no problem. So far I'm at 10 mpg unloaded and 6 loaded. This is a new truck with only 1400 miles. BUT I can idle and not worry about the extra diesel bs.

Seems like a good candidate for the V10. Same conditions and distance as my brother uses with his. I love my diesel, but if I were making short trips all the time, I might want a gasser.

I have the Ford V10 in my 37 foot class A motorhome. On flat ground it gets 9 MPG but that drops a bunch if you take it to the mountains. I drove it to Virginia and back and in the mountains it was 6MPG and lower depending on how steep the mountains were. It does have plenty of power though. My neighbor has the same MH but with a 300 HP Cummins diesel and when following him going up small hills in north Texas, I had to back off my cruise control to keep from running over him. He had his MH set on cruise at 55 but it wouldn't hold that speed while the V10 would. Mine only has a 4 speed transmission while his has a 6 speed.
He gets about 10-12 MPG with the diesel.

The V10 is a great motor... there are times when I miss having it

This is the first I've heard of a large number of 6.7 diesels dieing. Can you elaborate further?

They shutdown while driving without warning and seize up solid. We don't take them apart to see what's wrong, so can't help you there. One time we had a F550 seize up, dealership replaced the engine, the new engine seized up while doing their road test 11 KM from the their shop. When asked if there was a fuel issue causing it, they said nope, just crappy engines.

Since our trucks run basically 24/7 most of the year in pretty extreme conditions, we get to see what will fail long before people driving them on the highway ever will.

Another example: Ford radio displays, they burn out within a year on our trucks, pretty annoying trying to tune a station in... Why can't they make a display that lasts as long as the other brands do?

That is some very interesting information. Were the engines that seized all diesels?

That is strange but what's even more weird is my 2012 Dodge 6.7 diesel would get up to 225 degrees pulling the exact same load (20K) on flat roads! The F-550 V-10 runs at 190 or 200 degrees loaded or empty and the rpms are lower at 70 mph while loaded. Both have the 4:88 rear.

That's the 6.7L diesel Fords I was referring to, our newer gas V8 and V10's haven't had any issues so far in relation to reliability, driver abuse is a whole different story...

Still would take a 6.7L diesel over the gas model provided you plan on dealing it before warranty is up, and you need to fuel mileage/range/power from the diesel. There are cases where you simply need the extra power and range of the diesel vs the gas. I don't mean to bad mouth anybody's truck, I'm sure there's lots out there that will get a long life, just like some people had good luck with the 6L and 6.4L before.

Hey, This is the best truck test I've ever heard of. Does your company have an engine break-in schedule or do they just start maxing out everything on the truck from day one? Maybe the big car / truck companies should send engineers out there for more testing.
No offense taken here at all on my gas model truck. Tell us more!

Hope nobody gets offended, there's no perfect truck, that's for sure. For example, GM has a good gas engine in their trucks, but the y-pipe gets bent way too easy since it hangs down too far, wouldn't be an issue on the street, but no good for in the mine when chunks of mud are all over the roads.

No break in period, services are done once a month, and use OEM filters and parts.

You probably won't find a better testing ground for trucks than a mine, if there's any weak links they will show up promptly. It doesn't help that a lot of the people driving the vehicles don't care how hard they are on them, and some should just be beaten with a stick for what they do...
