I posted before about my son and I being active in Cub Scouts.

We have gotten in to 4H too. He is active in the 4H county wide shooting program. As the new owner of a bunny, he is also becoming active in the beginning rabbit program, in addition to the Beginner 4H program.

Anyone else or thier kids active in 4H? What activity?

I have 3 daughters in 4-H, 2 of them in Girl Scouts as well and other school activities (I was years ago). My boy is in College and I am working OT just to keep my wife in gas money to haul everyone around. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Be careful with that bunny, one leads to owning 21, I know first hand

I have three kids that were in 4-H, and it started with a bunny. The oldest daughter is now 25, next daughter is 23, and a son who just turned 21. They started in the Rabbit Club, branched out to the Livestock Club. They have all served as club and county officers for both 4H and the Fair Board. All 3 participated in Poultry Judging with the younger daughter being 1st in the country and on the second place National team.

The all three went on to Virginia Tech, with the girls earning Animal Science Degrees, with the younger daughter now completing her 2nd year in Vet School. And the olders daughter working her way thru the Peace Corp application process. My son switched from Dairy Science to Chemistry, looking at agri based chemistry. All three credit their participation in 4H as getting them into college.

I have been a 4H parent, serving on local and district boards, including being a shooting sports instructor.

Now the most interesting part of the story, we lived in Fairfax City in Virginia while doing all this. For you who do not know where Fairfax Virginia is, its about 15 miles from Washington DC and is highly developed area. 4H program touches over a thousand kids there.

Yep, our family is involved in 4-H also.

We have been involved for about 8 years or so in Washington County, MD. I am a leader for the 4-H Dog Club and my wife is a leader in our local 4-H General Club. Our oldest is the most involved - Leadership (summer camp leader), Junior Fair Board, Ambassador Club, and this past summer was crowned the Agricultural Exposition Queen. The youngest girl only particpates in the Leadership program.

Neither of the kids has participated in any of the large animal programs but have grown and matured by particiipating in the other educational programs. When a parent asks me about 4-H, I always suggest that they enroll their kids. The opportunities for personal growth are wonderful and the kids can have a lot of fun learning - even though they think that it is alot of work.

Just signed up for this years projects over the weekend. The 11yr old daughter is doing cake decorating(3rd year), model building(3rd year, division champion 2yrs in a row-I'm bragging), B&W and color photography(2nd year), aquatic science(2nd year) and counted cross stitch(1st year). The 6 year old is now a Clover Bud II and hasn't decided on what her big project will be yet. The kids really like it. I do too. I like watching them complete their projects.

2 sons and 2 daughters in 4-H, primarily rabbits (Lilacs, Mini-rex, English Lop, Mini-Lop). Usually about 50 rabbits or so in the barn. This year we're adding market ducks, call ducks, and poultry. Next year goats.

The week of the county fair is the highlight of the summer for the kids as we camp at the fairgrounds for the week which makes taking care of the animals much easier.
