I know because after one season of climbing up and over a ladder my wife made an “executive decision “ that “we” needed a deck.

Wow, I really like that! Very nice. I was envisioning nearly an identical setup; especially the covered portion. The only difference in my imagined design is a metal roof with a single slope. This is hurricane country; a canvas roof might last a year if you're lucky.

Are your upright poles set into the ground or sitting on blocks? I'm thinking I'll auger holes and set my poles in the ground with cement. Just a bit of insurance against blowing away.

But you should be no stranger to wind, right? Don't you guys get tornadoes? I lived in The Colony for a few years as a kid and I remember the monthly tests of the tornado alarms. It sent me running home each time, even though I knew it was a drill. I had/have a phobia of tornadoes.

For the posts I dug down 30” and put 4-6” of concrete at the bottom and let it cure and then placed the posts and filled in with dirt.

The canopy cover so far has survived two storms with gusts up to 60 mph. I take the canvas down post season.

My concern with a single slope cover is the wind lift load (don’t skimp on ur fasteners securing the metal panels to the frame). An “A” frame cover reduces wind lift.

Looks good! Glad you got it all fixed! Now you just sit and wait for the nutgrass to poke through! :ashamed:

Can’t wait to see the deck!
Well I waited 2 years for price of wood to go through the roof and it finally did, so I built a wooden deck. Well, not built, but in progress.

My daughter wants to have a pool party for her birthday at the end of the month and I said no problem. Then she said it's hard to have a pool party without a deck. I said there's not enough time and wood is too expensive. So my wife said she would build the deck. She has been building a few projects lately and doing a fine job at it, but this was biting off more than she could chew and I couldn't not take it over. So with my all female crew this is what we accomplished this weekend.

Wow, that's a lot of work, and the price of lumber is high... Glad you got it mostly done.

Keep in mind it was only ever about the pool area, I never tried anything to address nutgrass on the rest of the property. But in the spot under the pool I am sitting at 100% success rate. 0 nutgrass sprouts have come up under the pool in 3 years
